The following is an excerpt from some random forum.  My favorite part is bolded at the end.

Before you send your child back to public school, there’s something you should know

Oh, there’s more where that came from. Gatto wrote a sequel, Weapons of Mass Instruction. You can see him on video talking about it. Definitely a must watch.

From the video: “To impose conformity…is a very unwise idea. It makes people radically incomplete, fearful. True, it makes them easier to manage, but in a human sense, it ruins us.” I think that just about sums it up. Education = Humans -> Robots.

Memorable quote from the end: “Performance is the only sane way to measure anybody….Can you do anything that’s meritorious? We’re drowning in A-students right now. They don’t have any idea what to do….cause they listen to orders – they’re unable to give any orders that make any sense.” I think he defines performance in terms of value that can be exchanged economically – memorizing shit doesn’t necessarily translate to being able to deliver anything of value in the real world.

The people asking the questions at the end reminded me of the people at Pavlina’s CGW – all tuned in and turned on. One guy asks about psychedelics :) Some of them were pissed that they had been brainwashed their whole life. He concludes that there’s nothing we can do but be optimistic and work hard.
